IAMSHE Productions began as a way to take a stand against cancer which had killed several of our friends. As IAmShe Productions, in April - June 2011, Terry Menefee Gau and I produced Pirates of the Chemotherapy by Paul Schutte. We successfully met our budget needs to pay all personnel, rent, marketing, etc and our production raised $3,500 net proceeds for VCU Massey Cancer Center. Then life took over and we put IAMSHE Productions on the back burner until we could dedicate more time and resources to it. That time is now. It is time to create those plays and experiences that we feel strongly about. Some of these are new plays, some are classics, and some pieces will be developed as experiential theater works. Theater should be an exploration of feeling, thought, and adventure shared by creator, performer and audience. It is a response to who we are and what we are experiencing.
Who Is In Charge Here?
Helen Smith (Lynn) CEO and Artistic Director Hi, I’m Lynn Smith, founder, CEO, artistic director, and staff for IAMSHE Productions. During my over forty years working in theater and communications, I have developed visionary team-oriented directing skills which I use to create strong, creative, powerful ensembles. My early years include training in experiential theater with the Norfolk Theatre Company (NTC), workshops with the Polish Lab Theatre at NTC and with the touring company of The Royal Shakespeare Company at Old Dominion University. My directorial credits include Painting Churches, The Lion In Winter, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, And Then There Were None, The Art of Dining, Kitchen Witches, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, Sherlock Holmes, the Final Adventur, I Hate Hamlet, and more. I am also an experienced Production Manager having produced several shows including; The Dining Room, Wyrd Sisters, Catfish Moon, and Alone Together. When I can squeeze it in I love to act as well. I believe that theater should reflect the world around us but, it should also show us what could be and advocate for change. Theater should help us explore new ideas, thoughts, and relationships.
